🌲 PARK OPEN: Fitzgerald River National Park🌲

Although DBCA has issued a general park closure advice for the Fitzgerald River National Park after the devastating bushfire caused by lightning in the wilderness area in January 2026, which sadly resulted in 172,0000 hectares of the park burnt. It is important to note that visitors can still access the National Park including many of the popular recreational sites along the sealed section of Hamersley Drive (up to Hamersley Inlet) including East Mount Barren, 4 Mile Beach, Barrens Beach and Cave Point lookout.

Crews have begun inspecting roads leading into recreational areas within the park. More recreation sites within the Fitzgerald River National Park will begin to open once inspections have taken place and there is no risk to the public. Both Hamersley Inlet Campground and Four Mile Campground are open and taking bookings.

To avoid disappointment, please refer to the DBCA Park Alerts page or the latest Road Condition Access Report below before venturing into the National Park to find out which recreational sites have been affected or contact DBCA’s Albany Regional office directly on (08) 9842 4500 or email albany@dbca.wa.gov.au.

The above information was provided from Parks and Wildlife and this notice remains in effect until the next report. This report can change at short notice so please be aware of the status road signs located at the start of key roads leading into the National Park.  You can also check the Parks Alerts website (Parks and Wildlife Parks Alert) to see if there has been any further updates.

When the roads a open, a reminder to visitors that CARAVANS ARE NOT PERMITTED ON UNSEALED ROADS, as roads are narrow and may be corrugated. However, access by all vehicles is available year-round from Hopetoun along the sealed section of Hamersley Drive (south) up to Hamersley Inlet, where visitors can still experience much of what the Park has to offer including access to 4 Mile Campground (DBCA) and Hamersley Inlet campground (Shire) which are available to stay by booking online.
